Special Olympics Hosts Student Summit for Inclusion
Special Olympics held a summit at Â鶹¹ÙÍø for Division 9 to share ideas about how to make their school more inclusive. Rondout Valley, Beacon, Wappingers and Arlington attended. The schools worked in groups to share what districts around the state are doing to make their schools more inclusive for all students! Â鶹¹ÙÍø has a Youth Activation Committee (YAC), that plans inclusive events for our school. The group has students with and without disabilities. Â鶹¹ÙÍø has two Unified Sports teams, made up of students with and without disabilities competing and earning Varsity letters. Â鶹¹ÙÍø also has a Special Olympics Unified Team for Bowling and Track and Field. Anyone wishing to join a club can contact, Ms. Baines, Ms. Briggins or Ms. Puleo at Main or Ms. Bender at Â鶹¹ÙÍø North. The Newburgh participants from the summit are excited to put their own twist on what they learned at the Summit. Watch out for future events.
